100% Handmade In Washington All items are unique and one of a kind. Shapes & Wood types may be ordered separately. By its nature, each wood design is different and cannot be totally duplicated. Items shown are examples and will be manufactured upon confirmed order. The natural beauty of our wood art shows that it has been patiently cared for while releasing its unique character and a sense of connectivity between nature and the craftsman. No two pieces are exactly alike, and we are able to exercise spontaneity and judgment in shaping each piece to complement the wood.
The natural grain and color of the wood combined with design and symmetry define each piece uniquely. Our inspiration comes from the natural world and classical shapes which time has honed to ubiquity. The spinning wood and the concentration involved are totally engrossing and extremely satisfying. Wood offers an endless array of grain, figure, color, odor and texture; each beautiful in its own right. We combine wood with other materials, like metal, corral and semi-precious gems as the play between them can enhance each material and encourage new discoveries.
Our hope in making the wood art objects is to pay homage in some small way to the wonder and beauty of our natural environment. The real power of a piece, when successful, is the unity and harmony of the visual and tactile forms. Such a piece can give quiet joy every time it is experienced. Our work is meant to be utilitarian, and we’d be honored to think that it will be enjoyed both today and well into the future. The great joy of wood turning is the capacity to create something so functional and beautiful from a rough piece of wood. To be as ecologically responsible as possible we use as much salvaged wood as practical. Many pieces are turned to final form from green logs and allowed to dry slowly to prevent checking or cracking. To enhance the natural beauty of the wood, pieces are typically finished with several applications of high quality natural oils or a urethane finish when a more durable protection is appropriate. Hand buffing and, in some cases, the application of a hard carnauba wax gives a rich luster to the end result. As artists, we agree with Pablo Picasso who suggested, “I begin with an idea and then it becomes something else,” as this rings true for nearly every piece we create. And if we are experts now, it is because we have made most of the mistakes there are to make. And we continue to discover more. Our passion for the craft of woodworking is an investment of time and love for the medium. Please touch and enjoy.
